Tuscarawas County Public Defender

The Tuscarawas County Public Defender's office is seeking a self-motivated individual for the position of Assistant Public Defender. This position will represent indigent clients in legal proceedings in juvenile, misdemeanor, and felony courts at all stages of court proceedings in the courts of Tuscarawas County.

The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated dedication to indigent defense, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently. The candidate needs to have the ability to function in a fast-paced, high caseload environment. The ability to relate to indigent clients with special needs is essential.

Assistant Public Defenders maintain a full case load requiring legal representation for criminal offenses. These representations require regular client contact, research, advocacy and record keeping, as well as preparing legal briefs and motions. This is a full-time position therefore, the outside practice of law is not permitted.

Qualifications for the position include a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, be admitted to the Ohio bar and in compliance with Ohio CLE requirements. A valid Ohio driver's license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance is also required.

The starting salary is $67,000 subject to experience and county guidelines, plus the full range of benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance and PERS.
